Why the 2018 Mazda CX-5 Beats the Competition

The crossover SUV segment is full of options for you to choose from when it comes time to find your next car. Whether your lease is ending or you want to drive something new, narrowing down your options can be quite the task. So, to help, we at Heritage Mazda Bel Air are breaking down two popular models, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 vs. the Honda CR-V.

As your Bel Air, MD Mazda dealer, we won’t deny we have a favorite, however, we believe that to be fair, we should offer you details on both. While both models are great choices, personal taste comes into play.

Though the Honda CR-V was all-new for the 2017 model year, it still doesn’t match the 2018 Mazda CX-5 in design, luxury, and overall feel. Where the Honda model is rather bulbous, the Mazda CX-5 features a sleek, agile exterior that provides a more upscale personality.

When it comes to safety, both are reliable with high scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the Mazda CX-5 is the clear winner as it won the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, while the Honda CR-V only earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick.

While the Honda SUV offers two engines, the Mazda model only offers one: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The single powertrain sits between the two Honda model’s engines, but still provides plenty of power.

Though both vehicles offer plenty to enjoy, we know it often comes down to taste. If you’re looking for a luxury vehicle with better materials and a more attractive interior and exterior, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 is the clear choice. However, we invite you to decide for yourself. Visit our Bel Air Mazda dealership today to explore your options and take a test drive.
