Here at Heritage Mazda Bel Air, we understand that the market is fierce. However, we can't help but gloat about our incredible lineup of Mazda cars and SUVs. To show you how one of our favorites stacks up, we put it to the test. Take a look at our comparison between the 2020 Mazda CX-5 and 2020 Ford Escape in Fallston, MD.

Both the Mazda CX-5 and the Ford Escape are excellent compact SUVs, and at first, glance is quite comparable. However, the two begin to differ greatly when you look a little closer. For one, you won’t have to fiddle around with any three-cylinder options in the Mazda CX-5. The base engine of the Mazda CX-5 is a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes short work of the pavement. This baseline powertrain is tremendous when compared to the standard 1.5-liter turbo-3 in the Ford Escape, which attempts - but fails - to keep up with its offering of 181 horsepower.

When we visit the driver-assistance features, the two compact SUVs become comparable again. The 2020 Mazda CX-5 for sale near Forest Hill, MD offers adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warnings with lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking all as standard. That’s a tall order that Ford attempts to live up to, however, falls short by failing to provide adaptive cruise control as standard. What’s most disheartening for Ford is that base models are rather outdated when it comes to infotainment, as you’ll have to settle with a 4.2-inch LCD screen and an AM/FM radio. Alternatively, every model of the 2020 Mazda CX-5 comes with a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen that can be paired with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
